JOÃO TEZZA NETO, Dr.

Economist

Economist, Ph.D. from the Center for Environmental Sciences and Sustainability in the Amazon, Federal University of Amazonas  (2014 – 2018) and MBA in Strategic and Economic Business Management from Fundação Getúlio Vargas. Throughout his professional career, he worked in  private companies, governments and non-profit institutions, in programs, projects  and ventures aimed at the challenge of economic development associated with  conservation of the natural environment in the Amazon. Has experience in regional economic studies, organization  of supply chains of  forest products and services, modeling and implementation of payments for environmental services, design  and management of R&DI projects,  business plans, institutional development plans  and strategic communication.
 

He currently performs the role of executive director at the consulting company  Original Trade.

RITA MESQUISTA, Dr.

Biologist

Graduated in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (1985), Masters in Biology (Ecology) from the National Institute of Amazonian Research (1989) and Ph.D. in Ecosystem Ecology from the Institute of Ecology - University of Georgia (1995). And a researcher at the National Institute for Research in the Amazon. He has experience in the field of Ecology, with an emphasis on Degraded Area Management, working mainly on the following topics: secondary vegetation dynamics, rural and urban forest fragmentation, forest regeneration and agroforestry, biodiversity conservation and environmental management. Between 2004 and 2008 she was assistant secretary for environmental management at the Department of Environment and Sustainable Development of the State of Amazonas. There, he coordinated the creation and implementation of conservation units, ecological economic zoning, and the formulation of legislation on environmental management. Between 2008 and 2012 she was one of the coordinators of the Manaus Botanical Garden and Technical Director of the Amazon Museum. She was coordinator of the Professional Master's Program in Management of Protected Areas in the Amazon - MPGAP - at INPA between 2010-2016. Currently, he has been dedicated to scientific dissemination, rural extension and popularization of science, at INPA's Extension Coordination.

ANDREA WAICHMAN, Dr.

Biologist

Graduated in Biological Sciences from the Universidad Nacional de Buenos Aires - Argentina, Masters in Ecology from the National Institute of Amazonian Research and completed a doctorate in Freshwater Biology and Inland Fisheries by the National Institute of Amazonian Research in 1999. In 2001 in 2004 she was Director of Training at the Center for Environmental Sciences at the Federal University of Amazonas. She was Director of Graduate Studies at the Federal University of Amazonas from 2005 to 2009. From 2012 to 2017 she was the Technical Scientific Director of the Amazonas State Research Support Foundation - FAPEAM. He has extensive experience in postgraduate assessment and monitoring, international scientific cooperation, management of research and innovation networks, public funding of research and innovation, public management of S,T & I, elaboration of public notices of C, T & I and strategic management. She is an associate professor at the Federal University of Amazonas - UFAM. In research, he works in the area of Ecotoxicology and Environmental and Human Risk Assessment in tropical regions, with an emphasis on pesticides and Environmental Impact Assessment. She is currently the Director of Innovation Management, Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer at UFAM.

MÁRIO COHN, Dr.

Head of Sales

He is an ornithologist specializing in Amazonian birds, with an emphasis on biogeography. He graduated from the Northampton, Massachusetts, public elementary and secondary school system. Graduated in Biology with a BA in Liberal Arts from Dartmouth College (1983).
He has worked in the Amazon since 1987 and owes his greatest initial opportunities to get to know the region to the Biological Dynamics of Forest Fragments Project and to Field Guides, Inc. He is currently Senior Researcher and Curator of Ornithological Collections at the National Institute for Research in the Amazon (INPA).

GUSTAVO IGREJAS, Esp.

Economist

Graduated in economics from the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM) and post graduated in business administration from FGV/ISAE. Gustavo began his professional career in 1987 as an intern at the Manaus Free Trade Zone Superintendence (Suframa). In 1997, he became President of the municipality's Permanent Bidding Commission. In 1998, he became General Coordinator for Monitoring Industrial Projects, a position in which he remained for 14 years. Between 2012 and 2016, he was the Deputy Superintendent of Projects at Suframa and during 2015 he was an interim Superintendent. In 2017, Gustavo took over the Executive Secretariat for Development at SEPLANCTI/AM. Since October 2017, he has held the Deputy Executive Superintendence of Suframa.

MARIANO CEMANO

Forestry Engineer

Graduated from the University of São Paulo (ESALQ/USP), social entrepreneur and founder of the Institute for Conservation and Sustainable Development of the Amazon (IDESAM) - located in the city of Manaus-AM. US  Last 15 years he has dedicated his career to the search for innovative solutions to promote forest conservation, climate change mitigation and sustainable development. Working with innovative ideas and concepts since its foundation, the institution has grown rapidly and is currently recognized as one of the 10 largest social and environmental NGOs in Brazil, with a team of 45 employees and  annual budget of around 6 million reais, In recent years it has been intensely committed to developing the impact business ecosystem and attracting private investments to the Amazon.

PHILIP FEARNSIDE

Biologist

B.Sc. in Biology - Colorado College, MA in Zoology - University of Michigan - Ann Arbor (  and Ph.D. in Biological Sciences - University of Michigan - Ann Arbor (1978). IT'S  senior researcher  of the National Institute for Research in the Amazon (INPA). He has been studying environmental problems in the Brazilian Amazon since 1974, including living for two years on the Transamazônica highway before entering INPA's courts in 1978.

It carries out ecological research, including the estimation of the carrying capacity of tropical agro-ecosystems for human populations and studies on the impacts and perspectives of different modes of development in the Amazon and on the environmental changes resulting from deforestation in the region. Since 1992, it has been promoting the capture of the value of environmental services from the Amazon rainforest as a form of sustainable development for rural populations in the region. In 2004 he won the Conrado Wessel Foundation Award in the area of Science Applied to the Environment. In 2006 he received the Chico Mendes Award from the Ministry of the Environment with 1st place in the area of Science and Technology, and in the same year he was identified by the Scientific Information Institute (Thomson-ISI) as the second most cited scientist in the world in the area. of global warming
